Evening in Maastricht

Anticipating an adventure in the evening, I packed dinner, which consisted of beans, bread, carrots, broccoli, some tikka masala sauce. and a beer. After my workout, I rode my bike in a random direction, hoping to find something interesting. I peddled around for a half hour, but I did not find anything other than suburbs and roads (like the streetpic and selfie below). 



I stopped to eat eat my dinner and drink my beer at a sunny spot that had two horses (shameless beer advertisement below). 


I decided to ride back a different way and as I turned a corner, a lush agricultural landscape popped into existence (pictures below). 




I found these potatoes on the farm land :) Going to cook them up soon.


Here are some red gooseberries and blackberries I found as I continued my ride :) Later that night, I discovered my pastime of picking fruit and vegetables in urban areas is called urban gleaning.

08/10-08/13 After work on Thursday, Nathalie and I drove to Paris! During the ride, we primarily discussed what she wants to do after her internship. After the internship, she will be done with her third Master's degree and she thinks she has finally found a field she wants to pursue--clean meat advocacy. Even though she has three Master's degrees (sensory analysis, wealth management, and financial markets), experience leading the Paris branch of Sea Shepherd, the ability to speak French and English fluently, and years of practice discussing veganism with others, she still doubts that she has the capacity to lead the clean meat movement in Europe. Weekend Travels in Frankfurt

8/4-6/4 Friday morning, I rode to the Maastricht train station and boarded a train headed to the Liege station, where I caught a train to Frankfurt. Viv, Nolan, and I were going to do a little reunion in Frankfurt, as it is halfway between Maastricht and Munich (where Nolan is interning). I met up with Nolan and we walked to meet and get the key from Ludwig, a university student who was had kindly agreed to host the three of us on Couchsurfing. Frankfurt (pictured below) is the financial capital of Germany, which made the city look similar to large US cities—skyscrapers, large hotels, and wide streets.  As Nolan and I walked to the cafe where Ludwig worked, we caught up about school and life, and chatted about whether spending time at museums to look at art that is not accompanied by an explanation of how it is relevant to today’s society is an activities that has a positive impact on society.
